
Dr. Bruno Theiss
Bruno Theiss is a dedicated pianist and educator with a strong academic background and extensive performance experience. They hold a Doctor of Arts in Piano Performance and Music Theory from Ball State University, where they studied under Dr. Ray Kilburn. Prior to this, they earned a Master of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Wyoming under the mentorship of Dr. Theresa Bogard and a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the State University of Paraná, Brazil, where they were guided by mentors such as Professors Olga Kiun, Paulo Emiliano Andrade, and Dr. Daniela Tsi Gerber.
As an educator, Bruno has taught applied piano in both Brazil and the United States, as well as Class Piano and Music Theory in the U.S. Their teaching approach emphasizes their relationship with the students as equal parts involved in the development of the student’s skills.
An accomplished performer, Bruno has appeared in concerto performances with the Ball State Campus and Symphonic Orchestras and as a chamber musician has frequently collaborated with artists such as Caroline Nardino, Korn Roongruangchai, and Yu-Yao Chiu. They have served as a collaborative pianist for numerous opera productions and have performed in venues across the United States and Brazil.
Throughout their career, they have been recognized with numerous accolades, including the 1st prize in the Mackenzie Piano Competition in Brazil in 2015, the Intercollegiate Piano Competition of the West in 2020, and the Ball State Graduate Concerto Competition in 2022. Recently, Bruno was awarded with the Outstanding Graduate Student Award from Ball State in 2024, recognized as the most distinguished student of the School of Music that year.
Bruno continues to contribute to the field of music through teaching and performance, fostering a passion for artistry and education.
