2024 IPPA Canada Piano Pedagogy Conference & Festival

The 2024 IPPA Canada Piano Conference and Festival is set to be held in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. This event is open to all piano students, piano teachers and pedagogy scholars. We provide a diverse array of masterclasses, workshops, presentations, and performances aimed at enriching both teachers and students professionally, offering practical guidance tailored for everyday piano teaching.
Through our platform, we foster an environment where young Canadian pianists can learn from their peers and esteemed professionals from universities across Canada and the United States, helping them to establish themselves on the global stage.

Saturday, May 18th, 2024:

- 9:00 am – 10:00 am: Welcome and Opening Remarks
- 10:00 am – 11:00 am: Pedagogy Lecture: “Your Brain on Practice: Real-World Strategies and Solutions” by Dr. Scott McBride Smith
- 11:15 am – 12:15 pm: Pedagogy Lecture: “Crafting a Competitive Edge: Selecting Repertoire and Standing Out in Piano Competitions” by Dr. Ivy Lu Wang
- 11:15 am—12:15 pm: Workshop for Young Artist Attendees: Confidence Boost Workshop for young artists wishing to combat stage fright and improve stage presence
- 12:15 pm – 2:00 pm: Lunch break

- 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm: Workshop: “The Sore Pianist: Embracing the Echoes of Passionate Practice” by Steinway Young Artist Mr. David Xu
- 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm: Composer Workshops by Dr. Vince Ho

- 11:15 am – 12:30 pm: Meeting with Canada’s leading Composer Dr. Vincent Ho: “The 12 Chinese Zodiac Animals Book 1”
