Kyu Butler
Kyu is a pianist, educator, pedagogue, and clinician who is actively performing. Kyu has taught
both nationally and internationally and has performed in Italy, Czech Republic, China, Thailand,
Costa Rica, Korea and Carnegie Hall, Steinway Hall in New York, and Krannert Center for Performing Arts in US.
Kyu is a recipient of the Marina Grin and Golden Classical Music Awards for excellent in piano, and the winner of the Korea Times Competition, University of Illinois Concerto Competition and many more. Kyu was invited to present at conferences internationally and conducted master classes for young pianists. Her paper and articles were published in Korea and US.
Kyu graduated Korean National University of Arts (BM in piano performance), San Francisco
Conservatory of Music (MM in piano performance, PSD in piano performance and also historical
keyboards emphasis on fortepiano) and had doctoral training at University of Illinois at Urbana
Champaign in piano performance and literature and also masters in vocal coaching and
accompanying. Kyu received full scholarship and she was a recipient of Teaching Assistantship,
and Accompanying Assistantship from University of Illinois. Kyu won the position of Opera Coach, while she was at University of Illinois as well.
Kyu is passionate about teaching piano. She completed the Pedagogy internship at the University of Illinois. Kyu is also a Nationally Certified Teacher in Music (NCTM) and is a Specialist in Piano from Royal Conservatory of Music in Canada.
She served for Missouri Music Teachers Association, St. Louis Music Teachers Association, World Piano Teachers Association as President, and Vice-President for many years. Currently, Kyu is serving as Public Relations Chair of Nebraska Music Teachers Association. Kyu joined Midland University faculty since fall 2023.
