Dr. Ching-Ming Cheng

California State University San Marcus Chair of Music Department

Professor Ching-Ming Cheng will be inducted into the Steinway Teacher Hall of Fame in 2023. As chair of the music department at California State University, San Marcos, Dr. Cheng received the CSUSM Chancellor’s Outstanding Music Teacher Award in 2021. Dr. Cheng currently serves as Faculty Director of the Colorado State University San Marcos Foundation Board of Trustees. Dr. Cheng completed her first Asian tour in 2018, performing a series of solo concerts in Taiwan and Japan.She won a silver medal at the 2013 International Keyboard Odyssey Piano Competition in Colorado. Her honors also include performances at the Taiwanese Professors Association of North America’s annual retreat in San Diego, representing Taiwan at the Second Chinese International Piano Competition in New York City, and a master class presented by the American Association of Music Teachers in Eureka, California. Youth Concert Concerto Competition presented by the Eureka Symphony, California, and Humboldt State University Aria/Concerto Competition, California, presented at the Annual International Computer Music Conference and the University of Miami Composers Guild, Coral Gables, Florida Premiere.In July 2016, Dr. Cheng was invited to tour China with the Poway Symphony Orchestra and performed at famous venues such as Xi’an National Concert Hall and Shanghai Oriental Art Center. She has also collaborated with world-renowned saxophonist Kenneth Radnofsk on local tours at UCLA, SDSU, and Colorado State University School of Management (CSUSM).She was an active member of the Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC) and is currently the membership secretary of the San Diego North County Chapter, the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), and the California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT).
